What Tandem is

Tandem is a ride board for university students travelling to or from an airport. It shows you which other students at your school are making a similar trip, and shares names and email addresses between students who join the same ride.

Tandem is an information service only. It does not arrange, book, provide, operate or supervise any ride, and it is not a transportation company. What happens after students receive each other's contact details, including whether a ride takes place, how it is booked and how its cost is split, is entirely between those students.

Who can use it

You must be a current student with a working email address at a university Tandem supports, and at least 18 years old. You sign in with a code sent to that address. One account per person. Give your real name, because the students you ride with rely on it.

Your safety is your responsibility

Tandem confirms that an account holder controls a university email address. It does nothing else to check who a student is. It does not run background checks, verify identity documents, or screen anyone's conduct or driving record.

Use caution when sharing a ride with people you do not know. Meet in a public place, confirm who you are meeting, and tell someone you trust about your plans. You decide whether to travel with another student, and you do so at your own risk.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Tandem and its team are not liable for any action, misconduct, loss, injury or damage arising from contact or travel between students who are paired through the service.

Fees

Joining a ride costs $2, charged when you join. Posting a ride costs $2, charged to your saved payment method only when the first student joins your ride. If nobody joins a ride you posted, you pay nothing. Payments are processed by Stripe.

Refunds

Fees are not refunded if your plans change, if you leave or remove a ride, or if the other students do not reply. There is one exception: if everyone else drops out of a ride and you are the only student left on it, your $2 is refunded automatically to your original payment method.

Rules for posting and joining

You can be on one ride per travel day. Post only trips you really intend to make. Do not put phone numbers, email addresses or other contact details in a ride's starting or ending point. Use other students' contact details only to arrange the ride you share, and do not pass them on. Do not harass anyone or use Tandem for anything unlawful. We may remove rides or close accounts that break these rules.

The service

Tandem is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that you will find someone to ride with, that a student who joins will show up, or that the site will always be available. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything connected with the service is limited to the fees you paid Tandem in the three months before the claim arose.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use Tandem means you accept it. Questions go to admin@tandemsplit.com.
